Türkiye - exploring culture and cuisine

with Friends of Hatay

Discover the flavours and heart of Türkiye

Are you passionate about food and fascinated by the stories and traditions behind it? Join Friends of Hatay on a 15-day culinary and cultural journey from Istanbul to Hatay, tracing the spice-laden pathways that connect Türkiye’s diverse regions. Along the way, you’ll wander through bustling markets, meets experts in Ottoman and Turkish cuisine, prepare and share meals with locals, uncover hidden gems off the tourist trail, and savour authentic regional dishes that tell the story of this vibrant nation.

Born from compassion and connection, Friends of Hatay was founded by mother-and-daughter duo Sharon and Elena Croxford following the devastating February 2023 earthquake in southeastern Türkiye. What began as a heartfelt volunteering effort—bringing joy to families through open-air cinema events—has grown into an ongoing mission to support the region’s recovery by celebrating its people, culture, and extraordinary cuisine.

Join us to experience the warmth of Turkish hospitality, the richness of its culinary heritage, and in Hatay, the resilience of a community rebuilding with hope and flavour.

Our journey will take us from the metropolis of Istanbul through the heartland of Türkiye stopping in Iznik, Göreme (Cappadocia), Tarsus (via Taşkale), Antakya and Şenköy, and ending in Gaziantep
